Prof. David Cook has been appointed as Acting Head of the Department of Economics effective from 1 December 2021. He is to succeed Prof. Albert Park, who will join the Asian Development Bank as Chief Economist.
Graduating with a Ph.D. in Economics in the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996, Prof. Cook joined HKUST as an Assistant Professor in the same year. He was then promoted to Associated Professor in 2002, and Professor in 2014. Prof. Cook has served on various committees at the Economics department. He was also the Academic Director of the Master of Science in Economics program from 2015 to 2020.
Prof. Cook is currently on the Editorial Board of Pacific Economic Review and Advisory Committee for the Hong Kong Institute of Monetary Research of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
The primary research fields of Prof. Cook are Monetary Economics and International Macroeconomics.
