At this virtual event, Prof. Siu Fai Leung began the talk by sharing about his upbringing, how he ended up studying Economics, and pursued an academic career. He then addressed the topic of the evening.
Growing up in Hong Kong several decades ago, he saw crimes, poverty, and delinquency. He believed that the culprit of all the social ills was money. If people had money, they would not break the law, harm others, or sell their souls. Therefore, money is evil. Money is the root of all the problems. As a result, he disliked money growing up. He then discussed with students whether money was the cause or symptom of the social ills.
The discussion was followed by a Q&A session. Students raised questions about academic matters, postgraduate studies, and career choices.
