Prof. Wooyoung Lim has been appointed the Head of the Department of Economics effective from 1 August 2025.

Prof. Lim earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 and joined HKUST, where he gradually advanced to full Professor by 2025. His research focuses on experimental and behavioral economics, with publications in respected journals such as Games and Economic Behavior (GEB), Journal of Economic Theory (JET), and American Political Science Review (APSR). He has contributed to the field through work on strategic communication and experimental design, gaining recognition from peers.

In addition to research, Prof. Lim has taken on various service roles at HKUST, including committee leadership and helping to establish a behavioral lab in the Lee Shau Kee Business Building. Prof. Lim also contributed to the reform of the Department’s undergraduate programs during a period marked by social unrest and the COVID-19 pandemic.
