Students Explore Macau’s "Mega-Events Economy" at Galaxy Macau
11 May 2026

As part of an ongoing initiative to study economic development within the Greater Bay Area (GBA), ECON undergraduate students participated in an immersive experiential learning trip to Galaxy Macau on April 23, 2026. The visit provided insights into Macau's pivotal role in the region's growing "mega-events economy".

The site visit kicked off with an exclusive briefing by Galaxy Macau executives, who detailed the corporate and operational frameworks that drive large-scale integrated resorts. Students then embarked on an industry tour, exploring the popular Grand Resort Deck, the refined hospitality of Hotel Okura Macau, and the premium suites at Raffles at Galaxy Macau. Through these properties, students analyzed how premium service standards and product differentiation fuel the luxury tourism market.

The excursion concluded with a look at Galaxy Kidz and the iconic Diamond Lobby, showcasing how modern resorts leverage digital trends and adapt to evolving family demographics. The spectacular Diamond Lobby served as a live case study on the economic power of experiential marketing and viral landmarks.

The Department of Economics sincerely appreciates the leadership team at Galaxy Macau for giving our students the opportunity to observe firsthand the economic innovation taking place in the Greater Bay Area.
