Admissions

 

Prior Educational Background

For admission to the MPhil, PhD program, students must possess a good first degree or a Master's degree from a recognized university or an approved institution. An applicant's undergraduate background is not a precondition for admission. Students with a solid quantitative background and commitment to academic study and research are encouraged to apply.

 

GRE and TOEFL Requirement

On top of their academic performance, an applicant must demonstrate his/her capability for graduate studies by obtaining a satisfactory score in the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). 

For applicants attended educational institutions where the medium of instruction was not English and whose first language is not English, a satisfactory score in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required.

   ** Applicants are required to have submitted all official documents latest by offer acceptance (except the pending 
        results). For conditional offers, official credentials are expected by end July for Fall admission.
        Applicants unable to provide the required documents by the above timing will not be allowed to proceed to register.

Admission: Important Dates

Admission to the MPhil, PhD program is for the beginning of the Fall semester. The Department's Postgraduate Committee begins to review applications right after the deadline (early January of each year).

Online Application starts mid-September
Deadline for submitting application 1 December
Selection process begins / invitation for interview 1 December  to March
Admission results announced from March

Late applications will also be considered if places are available.
