Target Students

  • The BSc program is quantitatively oriented and suitable for students with strong analytical mind, with science/mathematics backgrounds, and economics students with good mathematics background.
  • Prior knowledge in economics is not essential. Many students have their first encounter with economics when they join UST, their performance match with those who have taken economics in HKDSE.
  • Students who wish to pursue further study or pursue careers that require greater skills in economics and finance and additional quantitative methods, e.g. banks, financial institutions, trade, and government agencies.

In the first two semesters, students take foundation courses in business and management include accounting, economics, finance, information systems and business ethics; mathematics and language courses; and university common core courses.

Students take major required courses at their second year of study.

Students who are shortlisted for an interview will also be invited to take a Math test on the same day as the interview.

 
Math Test (Arranged by the Economics Department)

1. 1 hour, 4-6 questions in total

2. Testing if you understand the shape of some functions frequently used in Economics. For example, we ask if a function is increasing, decreasing, convex, concave, and where it attains maximum, minimum, some limit points, etc.

3. We consider only those who get 3 (out of 5) or higher in the math test.
